Welcome to the last post in my "what does that mean" series. I have tried to communicate some ideas you can use in life or work. Hopefully what I have gone over can result in you having some new perspectives. I find perspective to be the best teacher when I am looking for ways to improve. So today, lets talk about action.
Action
Defined, action is an act. Do something. Engage in a thing. Or as I like to say, Start Somewhere. A component of the literal definition includes "intent". I think intent is the best part of what I'm going to propose today.
To Summarize
The series has covered four other topical areas. Culture of Quality, Leadership, Ownership, and Service.
- Culture of Quality weaves together purpose, expectation, and action based systems.
- Leadership is about communication, expectation, and growth.
- Ownership is the process of action toward a goal.
- Service is about finding all your customers.
Action is the piece to bring all of these together.
How
Culture is the collaboration of values + mission + vision for you to build a foundation for action. Culture is the best way to ensure the intent of your action is lined up with the purpose your organization exists to fill.
Leadership is where you take the culture you've built and apply it: intentionally. Leaders need to communicate with intention. Set expectations with intention. Grow your teams with intention.
Ownership is enabled through culture and leadership. Leaders can be the example of communication and action. Do what you say you will do. Own mistakes and wins. Exemplify the intention of your organization by promoting and allowing ownership throughout.
Service applies throughout an organization. Customers exist everywhere, intention is a mindset to find them. Then, serve them based on the culture and expectations you have established.
Closing
Action is how you realize your culture and leadership. How you serve your customers. No matter who you serve, do it with intention.
